ROUND 1 - Portugal - Penafiel - 22 March 2009

Portugal - Penafiel

Metzeler world enduro riders greeted the field this weekend in Portugal with 12 podium positions, including wins in all three classes in both days racing.  It seemed that Metzeler riders were ready to pounce on the competition as the Outdoor Enduro World Championships got underway this past Saturday and Sunday near Porto in Portugal.  With this weekend’s performance from riders on Honda, KTM and Gas Gas machines, Metzeler is now leading all three classes of the championship.

RACE 1

In ENDURO 2, everything went very well for the new KTM factory rider Johny Aubert (FRA-KTM), who quickly adjusted to his new machine and Metzeler 6-Days EXTREME tyres, winning the day with a 1min 24sec advantage over his first adversary. The next three competitors, including Rodrig Thain (FRA-TM), Alessandro Belometti (ITA-KTM) and Bartosz Oblucki (POL-HVA) were a tightly packed group which was decided in the last timed portions of the day. Belometti, the most consistent of the three and also fitting Metzeler tyres, took second place in E2 in front of Oblucki in a renewal of confidence.

RACE 2

In ENDURO 2 the disillusion of BMW’s performance contrasts with the incredible serenity which reigns around Metzeler rider Johny Aubert. The composed world champion signed his second victory of the season with a 1min 29sec lead, and positioned himself firmly at the top of the championship in points.
