Compound

The rear tyres of versions (M) and (O), adopt a Dual Compound solution.
This central stripe compound is approximately 45mm wide (with little differences between sizes) featuring a 70% content of Silica, specifically developed to optimize the mileage and stability also at high speed. The shoulder compound covers approx 88mm of the profile on each side and features a 100% Silica (Full Silica) configuration which increases dramatically the chemical grip on wet and reduces slippage in any condition.
The Front tyre is now also a 100% Silica (Full Silica) compound.


Structure: INTERACT™ Technology

The new specs (M) and (O) of Roadtec Z8 Interact™ features Interact™ technology with a new variable tension layout.

On shoulders we introduced a full silica compound, commencing already with low lean angles, all the way through the extreme shoulder, to grant extreme chemical grip. In order to maintain high levels of stability, wear regularity and riding easiness, we have increased the 0� steel belt tension (vs. original version).

At the center we have reduced the 0� steel belt tension (vs. original version) to both increase the footprint area and warm-up the compound, and therefore increase the grip properties of the compound In correspondence of the compounds change edge, we adapt the 0� steel belt tension to compensate the different hardness.

The Interact™ technology, is what really permits to combine two such different compounds, with all the benefits involved, maintaining the traditional progressiveness of behaviour that originally characterizes the Roadtec Z8 Interact™.


Dual Compound and Interact™: the ultimate evolution of the species.

Metzeler have been developing the 0� Steel Belt technology on motorcycles tyres since 1992 and has always strongly believed in its potentials. We have believed so much in this concept that Metzeler decided to stay focused and keep on developing it through the last two decades. In 2008 Metzeler introduced the InteractTM, a revolutionary technology that represents the ultimate step of this development and is currently the unmatched level of evolution in belt technology, exploiting the effect of variable tension cord on the compound.

Approaching the need of a higher range of usage and targeting ourselves to these unmatched level of performances on wet, we were obliged to work on the compounds as well to reach an elevated chemical grip that was needed both on the front tyre and on the shoulder of the rear tyre, but keeping a different central zone more focused on mileage and stability. With this configuration, the InteractTM structure gives an incredible boost in the possibility of coupling two extremely different compounds on the same tyre by supporting a progressive behaviour and interaction between the two on the connection line. The result is that when riding into bends the feeling perceived is that of a progressive confidence sensation.

For all other sizes of the Roadtec Z8 Interact range, the variable tension has been applied with the following scheme.


INTERACT™: 3 Zones Tension technology


Interact™ Technology’s new scheme with a 3 zone tension (see image) provide a comfort and mileage for sport-touring, in order to enjoy the distance, safely:
  • High steel belts winding tension in the center reduces compound movement and increases stability of the footprint area which reduces wear and ensures high speed stability on long motorway journeys (centre zone - 2).
  • Low steel belts winding tension creates more flexibility and therefore higher energy absorption, the compound increases the temperature and in a way becomes softer offering more grip while leaning. (Shoulder zones - 1 & 3).
